The Gregson Park Tile Mural

In December 2022, Ali completed her first commissioned public artwork – The Gregson Park Tile Mural. The project, primarily funded by City of Newcastle’s Special Business Rates program, is located in Hamilton, New South Wales on the busy corner of Cleary and Beaumont Streets.

An ode to the local park and community gathering space, Ali conducted a substantial amount of research in order to create an authentic installation that represented the sentiments of the local population — both First Nations as well as European. The result is a colourful mix of silk-screen printed photographs onto handcrafted tiles featuring local flowers and trees. The installation also includes the Master Plan for the upcoming reconstruction of the park.
